Situated in the mountainous city of Malang, East Java, this project is a complex of Bungalows (Djoglo Bungalow) and Lounges (Djati Lounge). This complex consists of eleven bungalows spread out next to a golf course and a restaurant/multifunction room. In this project, MNTS tries to use the contemporary approach of ‘Joglo’, a traditional vernacular house of Javanese people whose roof structure mimics the surrounding mountain.

With the design approach, MNTS also uses modern materials such as glass and steel, giving some spatial experience when traditional combine modern materials. The typically solid timber wall has been replaced with glass wall, allowing more connection between the interior and exterior by absorbing the view of the surrounding mountains while maintaining privacy. The use of hollowed terracotta concrete on the pendopo allows the unobstructed cool breeze of the city of Malang inside the space. A modern roof shingle replaces the traditional roof structure typically made of terracotta roof tile, creating a more contemporary look.
